Australia to ban phones in schools in 2019

The New South Wales State in Australia on Thursday said they would ban mobile phones and smart devices in schools in early 2019 in an attempt to improve student performance.
This will also quell the rising number of online bullying cases.
“Distraction and bullying have always been issues for schools to deal with but mobile phones present a new challenge for schools, teachers, parents and students,’’ NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, said in a statement.
“We want to ensure mobile phones and other smart devices complement students’ learning, and are handled at school in an age-appropriate way.
“These changes will provide clear boundaries in our schools to ensure technology remains an enabler, not a detractor.”
While the ban will be in full effect in the state’s primary schools for children aged between 5-12, high schools will be given the option to opt in or “introduce measures to more tightly restrict the use of devices during school hours.”
The move comes on the back of an independent review commissioned by the NSW government in June.
This is where renowned child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg and his team examined 14,000 survey responses to measure the impact that mobile phones are having on educational outcomes and child development in schools.
Group of students in a school.
“We’ll work with schools to implement the changes recommended in the report, helping them manage the risks and rewards of using mobile phones inside the school gates,” NSW Education Minister, Rob Stokes, said.
“These changes are about keeping our schools safe and protecting the welfare of our students when they’re in our care.”
The ban will come into effect from the beginning of 2019.

Is it Possible to Get a Master’s Degree in a Different Field

How Is it Possible to Get a Master’s Degree in a Different Field?
If you are searching for “How to Get a Master’s Degree in a Different Field” this page is all you need. Explore.

Master’s Degree in a Different Field
Determining what field to study when starting your bachelor’s degree can be a frightening task, especially when you’re 18-years-old. For most students, they realize that the field they finished their bachelor’s degree in is not the field they would like to pursue a master’s degree. Fortuitously, there are many programs that don’t require students to have a bachelor’s degree in the same field they’d like to receive their master’s degree in.

In this article, we are going to discuss if it is possible to get a master’s degree in a different field.
Though there are master’s degree programs that do not require a bachelor’s degree in the same subject but many, if not all programs, require students to complete prerequisites courses before starting their master’s programs.
Essential courses are required classes or subjects that must be completed before you can take other coursework in the subject you are studying. And in this case, the courses are bachelor level courses that are required in order to provide students with a foundation before they start their graduate degree program.
While each college and program has their own requirements, there are a few masters’ programs that are known for accepting students with an out-of-field bachelor’s degree. The most common is Master’s in Business, Master’s in Counseling Psychology, Master’s in Human Resources, Master’s in Social Work, Master’s in Journalism, and Master’s in Nursing, and lots more.
Investing in your education can seem very intimidating; if you have countless interests, want to change jobs, or are just looking to pursue a career in a more lucrative field, you may wonder whether you can get a master’s degree if your bachelor’s degree is in another field.
Many colleges and universities present academic tracks as straight and narrow paths leading to a handful of careers. In reality, you have options when it comes to your academic career, and you don’t always need a certain bachelor’s degree to qualify for your intended master’s program.

Whether you’re a first-time student pursuing your dream job or a seasoned business executive looking to branch out into a different field, getting a master’s degree can be a great way to meet your goals in life.
Bachelors and Masters: Re-evaluating Goals

Put into consideration how you were when you earned your bachelor’s degree. In most cases, that 18-year-old student who was unsure of her academic interests or life goals picked a major because she didn’t know what else to do.

Perhaps your bachelor’s degree was the result of pressure from school or parents, or the outcome of a passion no longer present. Now faced with an unforgiving job market or more realistic life goals, you may realize that you wish to shift your career path.

Or perhaps a professional who has worked for a while may decide that a complete career change is in order, and is looking to master another field. This new-found maturity, career goal, or life re-evaluation should be viewed positively and boldly. The New York Times reports that passion and experience are even more important than the actual major, so if you can show passion for and interest in a new field, your undergraduate degree may prove to be less of an obstacle than it may seem.

In most cases, getting a master’s degree in a new field is possible and while someone with a bachelor’s degree from another field may have to take a few courses to qualify for certain master’s degree programs, the career shift can be done.

Prerequisites For A Master’s Degree
Should you major in business and work toward an MBA or choose a career in cure by majoring in psychology and earning a master’s in the field? If you’re interested in both subjects, then you should feel free to pursue both.

In fact, many schools prefer people with different backgrounds because career paths aren’t homogeneous. As long as you have a bachelor’s degree at all, most schools will only require certain prerequisites to complete a master’s degree.

What are these prerequisites?
The answer depends on your program of choice. Business schools stress strong communication skills, teamwork, and innovative marketing solutions. If your background includes a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, then you already possess strong communication skills and possibly teamwork from paper collaboration.
The school may ask you to complete additional coursework in marketing to make up the deficit, but this extra coursework could be worked into your master’s program so that you don’t waste time going back to school for an additional undergraduate degree.
When you talk to your prospective school, ask specifically if you can get a master’s degree if your bachelor is in another field, because the admissions adviser will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Finally, the question “Is it possible to get a master’s degree in another field?” yes it is very possible especially if you were forced to offer a course you never wanted to offer in your bachelor’s degree. This article has been able to answer this difficult but easy question.

Police Officers Torture 20-Year-Old Guard To Death In Ogun State (Photo)

Jubril Mohammed
Four police officers have landed in serious trouble after they reportedly tortured a 20-year-old guard, Jubril Mohammed to death.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Lawal Shehu, on Monday, paraded four cops, who were allegedly involved in the death of a 20-year-old guard, Jubril Mohammed, Punch has reported.

The parade happened after members of the deceased’s family and a rights group, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Lagos State, protested Jubril’s death at the zonal office in Onikan, Lagos.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Jubril worked as a security guard at Barka Nigeria Limited, Magboro, Ogun State.

He was arrested by policemen from the Ibafo Police Station over the alleged theft of some company goods.

The victim had reportedly fingered some workers of the company for the crime, saying they had earlier sought his cooperation for a dubious deal.

After his father allegedly paid N30,000 to the police in Ibafo, he was released on bail.

However, a few days after, the victim was rearrested, as the case was transferred to the Zonal Intervention Squad, Obada, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

His father, Ibrahim Mohammed, told Punch that when he visited his son at the ZIS office, he could not recognise him because he had been severely tortured.

A co-suspect, Muhammed, also said he witnessed the torture of the 20-year-old and sometimes carried him from the torture chamber whenever he could not walk.

He alleged that the police team had taken a snapshot of all of the suspects last Monday when Jubril collapsed and was rushed to a hospital where he died.

The zonal police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, announced on Sunday that the policemen who handled the case had been detained.

The CDHR and the deceased’s family members, however, held a protest on Monday, demanding justice for Jubril.

The Chairman, CDHR, Lagos State, Alex Omotehinshe, said the group would follow the case to the end.

He said, “It is against the fundamental human rights of a suspect to be tortured before facts or information can be obtained from him. We believe that if we don’t hold this protest, the police will conduct this case as an underground investigation and at the end of the day, they will come up with a different story. They may say they have disciplined the officers and you will see the culprits moving around.

“Our main concern is to get justice for the young man, who was innocent of the charges. We want to give this case proper monitoring. As the police have set up their committee, we are going to monitor everything. We are going to make it a day-to-day activity. We will monitor the autopsy process, the outcome of the police investigation and the role the officers played in this case.”

The victim’s cousin, Saheed Isa, said the police paraded the four cops, who were being detained at the zonal office, before Jubril’s family members.

He noted that Jubril’s father identified two of them.

Isa said the police later led the family members to Abeokuta to see Jubril’s corpse in a morgue.
